Story, Louvier Kindo Tombe
The Mbalmayo come together that opened on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 is placed on the theme “effectiveness and efficiency of strategies to combat climate change at the national and international level”.
“It is up to us to identify the challenges we face due to climate change, and present to the government for actions to be taken,” says madam Ndongo Zinga Lisette, spokesperson of COFECCC at the opening ceremony.
“Before asking what the government has done for us, we need to first of all be able to show our efforts in providing concrete responses to effective and efficient measures to combat climate change.”
For three days therefore, the over 300 women, including members of civil society organizations, academics, policy makers, and students will strengthen their capacities in the face of climate challenges, in order to position themselves as key agents in climate action.
This is being done through plenary presentations, practical workshops, eco-excursions, wellness sessions, and a trade fair dedicated to women’s civil society organisations including B2B professional meetings.
The workshop aims to take stock of the national climate situation and examine the aspects of climate gender. It will also involve understanding the issues related to climate finance, in particular carbon credit, and identifying eco-innovative activities that can benefit from the green fund to accelerate the transition to green growth.
COFECCC achievements
COFECCC 2 will build on the successes of the previous edition to propose concrete solutions and daily actions to be implemented to address climate adaptation and mitigation challenges.
Participants will be trained on the tools for developing a green project concept note. The idea is to promote “best women’s environmental practices” at the national level.
According to the spokesperson of COFECCC, Ndongo Zinga Lisette, the Mayor of Mbalmayo has announced that there is a piece of land available for women in Cameroon to exploit and contribute in the climate fight.
This second edition will conclude with a draw for a project from an association, which will receive direct funding of one million francs from a civic-minded company. The selected project will be implemented immediately after the conclusion of COFECCC 2.
The outcome of COFECCC 2 will be a final communiqué containing a COLLECTION OF PROJECTS from women’s civil society as a response to the issue of climate change and recommendations.
COFECCC 2 it should be noted is placed under the patronage of Mr. HELE Pierre, Minister of the Environment, Nature Protection and Sustainable Development.
