The number of Coronavirus infected cases has skyrocketed to over 800 within a month of its presence in the country with 12 deaths. On the continent, 693 deaths and 12,845 confirmed cases had been registered.

With the inflated number of Covid-19 confirmed cases in Cameroon, fears and panic struck down the spine of most Cameroonians of their survival chances.

But this was until Prime minister, Joseph Dion Ngute announced seven additional measures to government’s initial thirteen (13) response plan to wrestle the insidious virus, on the high instructions of the country’s President, Paul Biya.

The Head of State has endorsed the use of Hydroxychloroquine and Azythromycine in treating infected persons. These two drugs are considered by many doctors as very effective in the treatment of Coronavirus.

Before, there wasn’t any uniform treatment for patients in confinement centres in the country, which slowed down recovery rate.

“As part of the response to the COVID-19 pandemic, H.E Paul Biya, President of the Republic of Cameroon, marks his very high agreement to the Minister of Scientific Research and Innovation for the manufacture of Hydroxychloroquine and Azythromycine” a release signed by MINRESI, Madeleine Tchuente on April 9 stated.

MINRESI in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Health, MINSANTÉ have embarked in the mass production of these drugs.

As the Yaounde regime intensifies measures for mass screening campaign especially in the affected areas, the President equally ordered for the acquisition of tests kits, the manufacturing of protective masks and hydroalchoholic gel or hand sanitizers.

From Monday April 13, there will be compulsory wearing of facial mask in all public spaces and systematic sanctioning of any breach of the restriction and confinement imposed on persons at risk.

Hopes have been rekindled through the establishment of specialized centres for Covid-19 patients in all regional capitals following the field hospital model, to receive patients in case of a peak of the epidemic and allowing hospitals to operate normally.

Due to the spread of unconfirmed reports of overcrowded hospitals in Douala and Yaounde with Covid-19 patients, many citizens suffering from ordinary sicknesses, had feared going for medical examination to avoid contamination.

Minister Manaouda Malachie of Public Health last April 9, dispatched personal protective equipment, sampling and laboratory equipment, disinfection and decontamination equipment and consumables to regional governors to enable them better cope in tackling the virus. Other types of equipment he said, will be deployed in the days ahead to the regions.
