The premises of the High Commision in Canada are temporarily closed as of Friday, October 9, 2020 till further notice.

The decision is contained in a release from the Cameroon High Commisioner.

The closure is attributed to health reasons related to Covid-19.

Officials of the Diplomatic Institution are employing measures to avoid contamination and spread of Coronavirus among the Cameroonian community in Canada.

The release from Solomon Azoh-Mbi did not specify for how long the premises would remain shutdown.

But it Indicates that the Cameroonian community would be informed of the resumption of service in a timely manner.

The following consular services would not be operating through out the shutdown period;

– Requests to apply for a new visa or visa renewal,
– Requests to book appointment for passport application,
– Request to apply for entry visas.
– Requests to obtain a consular card among others.

The Cameroonian community in Canada have received the information with mixed feelings.

News Upfront gathered from a Cameroonian in Ottawa that the décision is coming at a time when some of them were in the process to regularise their situations.

“We are planning to visit home by December to celebrate with family, we don’t know for how long the High Commision will remain closed, that is disturbing” another Cameroonian told News Upfront.

The closure is coming barely two months, after Cameroon opened it’s borders partially (Land, Air, Sea) to a category of travellers, following the successful handling of Covid-19 by the government.

Bilateral relations between Cameroon and Canada dates as far back as in 1962.
