A drug trafficker of foreign nationality is reported to have been arrested and detained at the Littoral Divisional branch of the Judicial Police in Bonanjo, Douala.
The drug dealer whose name News Upfront gathered as Damian Anichebe, was arrested at the Douala International Airport at about 9pm August 28, 2020 by frontier police about to transport a consignment of hard drug called methamphetamine.
According to security sources in Douala, the 18kgs of hard drugs which were destined for a European country is estimated at close to seven hundred million CFA Francs
As he approach the airport with the two boxes, the frontier police at the airport in suspicion, decided to search through the boxes to verify the content, our source informed.
A source in Douala said the 43-year old based in Greece, flew into Douala from Brussels on August 20 and had booked a return flight for that fateful August 28. But after collecting the consignment from an agent in Douala, his mission crashed as he fell into the dragnets of the police.
Police sources say the black market transaction took place at the Ange Raphael student residential neighborhood where his accomplice of same nationality met him and handed over the drugs well packaged in two travel bags.
The drugs were systematically tied up in foil papers, before covering with flour to look like some baked cookies.
Added to them were mixtures of spices of different varieties, the source told News Upfront.
The drug dealer was later handed over to the Regional Division of the judicial police in Bonanjo while his other associate is said to have successfully escaped out of the country.
A security source said the suspected criminal will be tried at the Wouri High Court and an investigation to crackdown on the remaining members of the click has been launched.
