The Divisional Officer, D.O. for Buea, Abba Abduraman has urged members of the Junior Chamber International, JCI Cameroon to strive for value creation as young leader, especially during challenging times. JCI Cameroon members drawn from different parts of the country, converged last weekend at Mountain Hotel for their national council.
Chairing the event, the local administrator told the attendees “the market pays for value creation and we are all equipping ourselves to create values because we understand that, leadership means you create values for others, it means you should the direction for others.” “You can only show the direction if you have equipped yourself in such a way that you’re able to see the challenges come, leadership means you see what other people cannot see and you give them direction.” He affirmed.
During the gathering the various speakers noted how affected their various 2020 project have been, by the present pandemic. “You have the capability to reinvent yourself and bounce back,” the DO reminded, stating that, “as individuals you need to build your resilience to happenings around you, because what happens around you are not your making but to make out of it is 100 per cent your responsibility”, he challenged.
While lauding the works of the Buea chapter, Mr Abduraman called on JCI Cameroon members entirely, to reawaken their emotional intelligence and be ever ready to learn in order to be well equipped for the future.
The Buea meeting also provided JCI Cameroon the opportunity to evaluate its activities in the first half of 2020 and to chart the way forth for the rest of the year.
According to JCI Cameroon National President, Emmanuel Babila Tafon, the meeting was a chance to reiterate his initial stance and the decision to work together since taking over as the national president.
“We had the local presidents and JCI members who came to evaluate what we have been doing to see if we are meeting the objectives we gave ourselves for this year and to better plan to meet other objectives. As expected, we have to revise our strategy and objectives to see how we work within the context of the pandemic we are faced with today,” Babila informed the press.
Emmanuel Babila believes despite the covid-19 pandemic, members of the movement have not lost hope in their vision. He said “local JCI organisations need more assistance in order to overcome the pandemic. We know we have to live with it so we are motivating members and encouraging them to get connected to be able to cope with the pandemic.”
He underlined that the solution lies in making the organisation’s influence felt in the personal lives of each and every one of its members. “We have been able to create impact on the personal lives of our members and that is our main focus because we had collectively decided that we want the organization to provide more opportunities to its members … we look forward to better days,” he noted.
As the meeting concluded, the next rendezvous was set for October during the movements’ national convention.
