The fourth session as of right of Elections Cameroon (Elecam) that held in Yaounde on Thursday February 23, 2023 was an occasion for the board members of the elections organizing body to evaluate the path covered so far in line with the organisation of the March 12 senatorial elections. The evaluation showed clearly that since the electoral college was convened by the President of the Republic, Elecam has been up to the task.
“We adopted a proactive and anticipatory mindset,” Enow Abrams Egbe, chairman of the electoral board of Elecam said in his opening speech during the session.
“It has made us, up to now, to effectively gain precious time on deadlines in the electoral process that we all know is highly restrictive.”
Regardless of the scale and volume of activities planned by Elecam during this period, the Director General of Elections and his collaborators have done a great job.
The selection of list of candidates from political parties was organised hitch free, and the few petitions filed at the level of the constitutional council were treated within deadline.
The list of senatorial electors has already been updated and published far ahead of the statutory deadline. Claims relating to the said list and possible corrections are being processed by competent units of the Directorate General of Elections.
A recent release from Dr. Erik Essousse, Director General of Elections at Elecam indictated that all voters cards for the elections have already been produced and are now available at the competent Branches of Elections Cameroon (Elecam).
“As at today, ballot papers and election campaign documents have been produced and ready for deployment,” says Enow Abrams Egbe.
“We can give assurance that, everything is set to carry on with the next phases, the nearest of which is the election campaign.”
The campaign is due to open on Saturday February 25, 2023.
