The death of a gendarme officer at Finex – Douala has pushed top management of the company to suspend operations.
The last VIP Finex bus left Yaounde today for Douala at bout 1:00 PM.
It was the only bus that left the agency today.
According to the branch manager, they have received information from heirarchy to suspend all their activities till further notice.
“I am sorry I can’t grant you any interview concerning the incident in our Douala branch agency because we have been asked not to talk to the press for the moment” the manager told News Upfront reporters who visited the agency Thursday July 23, 2020.
News Upfront however gathered from reliable sources that part of Finex Douala branch has been sealed by security officers who equally arrested the agency manager and close to a dozen others early this morning.
Those picked up are helping in Investigation opened to throw light on the murder of a gendarme officer at the agency.
A video circulating on social media shows how the officer was beaten to death by some men identified as workers of Finex Douala the night breaking Thursday July 23, 2020.
Accusing fingers are pointing at a “toilet agent” who had a dispute with the officer over the sum of 100 FCFA being money for using the agency’s toilet.
Some sources say the officer refused to pay for using the toilet while others put the blame on the toilet attendant for failing to reimburse the gendarme officer for lack of coins.
News Upfront can’t Independently comfirm these.
The victim identified as Armel, was on his way to Yaounde from a mission in the South West region.
Another officer who tried to arrest the situation was equally brutalized and is responding to treatment in a health facility in Douala.
At press time, an official reaction from the Minister of Transport was still to reach News Upfront.
