The African community has become targets of suspicion, distrust and racism in the Chinese Southern largest city of Guangzhou.
The past seven days have been the worst to Africans living in Guangzhou, China.
Most are evicted from their homes, and turned away by Hotels for just no good reason.
“I have been sleeping under the bridge for days now, with no food to eat, … I cannot buy food anywhere, no shops, restaurants will serve me”, this is the testimony of an African in Southern China who says most of them are going through hell.
From all indications, there is a spark of anti foreigners in China with the African community bearing the cross greatly.
Reports Indicate that Africans in Guangzhou are like beggers on the streets and the Chinese government is doing just nothing to salvage the situation.
African Nations and Institutions have been reacting to the assaults on their citizens in China.
The president of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat has summoned the Chinese Ambassador to the AU for clarifications on the situation.
The AU has asked the Chinese Ambassador, Mr Liu Yuxi to seek immediate remedial measures to the situation.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Integration of Ghana, Madam Shirley Ayorkor Botchway, on her part has also summoned the Chinese Ambassador to Ghana for questioning on the torture to Ghanaians and other Africans in China.
The anti foreigners spark it should be noted was provoked by new discoveries of COVID-19 cases in China mostly imported.
Out of 144 patents tested positive, 16 are Africans.
Eight of them were Nigerians alleged to have broken quarentine and visited restaurants in the city of Yuexiu District, known as “Little Africa”.
That is how landlords are evicting Africans from their houses, companies now target them with suspicion, distrust, racism and you name the rest.
The anger of the African community is high because they are forced to carry COVID-19 tests while their Chinese colleagues are moving about freely.
It is alleged that China has banned foreign nationals into the country as measure to contain the fresh outbreak.
Local authorities however Indicate that they treat foriegners equally in China.
