Prime Minister and Head of Government, Chief Dr. Joseph Dion Ngute, hit the ground running upon his arrival in Bamenda, embarking on an extensive tour to inspect key state and international partner-funded development projects in the North West Region.
The Prime Minister’s two-day working visit highlights the government’s steadfast commitment to the reconstruction and development of the North West and South West regions under the Presidential Plan, following years of security challenges.
A Grand Welcome and High-Level Delegation
Arriving on October 14, 2026, the Prime Minister received a warm and enthusiastic welcome starting at Matazem, the gateway entry point from the West Region, and continuing through the Welcome to central town, where he was greeted by local administrative authorities, traditional rulers, and enthusiastic militants. He is accompanied on the visit by key officials, including the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Celestine Ketcha Courtes.
Project-by-Project Inspection Tour
The Head of Government visited a total of five major project sites across the city to evaluate progress, ensure adherence to standards, and encourage project engineers.
His first stop was the Office of the Public Independent Conciliator, an institution established following the 2019 Major National Dialogue under the region’s Special Status. Officials revealed that the project has completed its first phase entirely, while phase two currently stands at 22 percent completion, with a third phase contract award upcoming.
Moving forward, the Prime Minister assessed the ongoing construction works on the North West Regional Assembly edifice, aiming to consolidate regional decentralization.
At Up Station, he evaluated the C2D-funded road project stretching from Prison Junction past the Bamenda Central Prison to Avenir Market, alongside inspecting the progress at the North West Customs Head Office and the Customs Junction–GBHS Bamendankwe road.
Continuing his tour across Amour Mezam and Veterinary Junctions, the Prime Minister checked updates on the 6.5-kilometer World Bank-funded Bamenda Urban Crossing road, whose works he originally launched on September 17, 2025.
He also inspected the C2D-funded Fon’s Street area and the Food Market section. The intensive tour concluded with an inspection of the Mankon District Hospital rehabilitation project, executed by the North West Regional Assembly.
At each stop, Chief Dr. Dion Ngute commended the technical teams and engineers for their dedication, offering precise instructions to ensure high-quality execution. He wrapped up his first day with a traditional courtesy visit to the Mankon Fon’s Palace.
Focus Shifts to Peace Initiatives
With the infrastructure inspection successfully wrapped up, the Prime Minister’s agenda shifts entirely to peace-building today, October 15, 2026, as he officially launches the much-anticipated community dialogue sessions in Bamenda.
