Elections Cameroon will proceed with the technical verifications neccesary for the production of provisional electoral registers by October 20 and the publishing of the national electoral roll by December 30, in accordance with the Electoral Code.
At the end of the registration process August 31, 2020, 15077 new registrations were carried out, including 9.989 men, 5.088 women, 38 disabled persons and 10.257 youths.
The figures bring the total number of persons registered on the national electoral roll to 6.868.575.
The revision took place in a special context marked by health crisis linked to COVID-19.
That explains why the exercise was carried out only in fixed stations found inside Elecam’s council branches, and not the usual field visits.
“The attendance was not massive, given the caution observed to avoid unnecessary contacts as much as possible” Erik Essousse, Director General of Elections at Elecam told reporters Tuesday September 01, 2020 in Yaounde.
He added that “we will continue to work for a trustworthy electoral register, free from abnormalities, to ensure transparent, impartial and credible elections.”
Expectations are high that president Paul Biya would anytime from now convene the electorate for the regional elections.
