It was a happy mayor of Santa municipality who received the delegation from the steering committee of the presidential reconstruction plan on Wednesday 29 March 2023 in Santa.
“We have benefitted bountifully from the reconstruction plan,” says mayor Samkia Elvis II.
One of the key projects in the municipality is the construction of the Women Empowerment Center. Situated few metres to the council, the center is completed, equipped to 100 percent, and already in use.
Most of those benefitting from the services of the center are rural women who depend on farm for their livelihoods, as well as those whose husbands lost their lives in the crisis.
“This project was timely as the women urgently need to be empowered in vocational training,” says His Majesty Fon Samkia Elvis II.
Besides the women center, the presidential reconstruction plan has also realised other projects in Santa like the construction of eight (8) classrooms at Government School Baligham, equipping them with benches and solar lights.
“The project bank of the PPRD is not yet exhausted as concerns Santa,” say Balungeli Confiance Ebune, president of the steering committee of the presidential reconstruction plan.
“Many more projects will be executed in due time.”
Most of the projects have to do with improving social cohesion, and the mayor did not hesitate to call on the leaders of the plan to extend their vision to other villages that make up the area.
To show appreciation, the population of Santa came out in their numbers as the steering committee members visited the municipality.
Balungeli Confiance Ebune was proud that many people are recovering from the negative impact of the crisis. He was pleased that after all, the population have allowed the companies charged with the construction of the Bamenda-Babadjou road to do their job.
In the last three years, the presidential reconstruction plan has impacted the lives of many and changed the face of several communities.
