Bafana Bafana of Ndu Wins Mafor Yah Judith’s 2023 Peace and Solidarity Cup

Bafana Bafana of Ndu are the winners of the third edition of Mafor Yah Judith Sunday epse Achidi cup. The team from Ndu sub Division whitewashed Buca Junior of Nwa 4 goals to 2 after penalty kicks to win the CFA 5 million worth trophy donated by the General Manager of CAMTEL, Mafor Yah Judith Sunday epse Achidi today September 10, 2023.

The football match took place at the Nkambe Municipal Stadium with over twenty-five thousand spectators under the watchful eyes of the Senior Divisional Officer for Donga Mantung Division, Dr. Nkwenti Simon Ndoh. Addressing the mamaud crowd, Dr. Nkwenti Simon Ndoh express gratitude and thanks to the GM of CAMTEL for instilling peace in the division through sports. He called on all the youths to promote the peace that Donga Mantung is notable for and applauded Mafor Yah Judith Sunday epse Achidi, General Manager of CAMTEL for her continuous efforts in building peace and solidarity among the youths of Donga Mantung Division.

The winners, Bafana Bafana took an envelope of FCFA 1.000.000 cash prize and trophy, runners up Buca Junior of Nwa received FCFA 600.000, while the third and fourth team received FCFA 300,000 and FCFA 200,000 respectively. The trophy for fair-play was given to Bo Nyar FC of Nkambe.

The three months long tournament help football lovers to discover some new talents. The higest goal scorer went to Weyi Letus of Moh FC, and the best player of the tournament was attributed to Ewang Frankline of Bo Nyarr FC while the best goalkeeper of the tournament went to Fai Ciduan of New Market FC.

The Foofball Match

At about 1pm, the drumbeats at the Nkambe Municipal Stadium echoed across the town. There was singing, dancing and one could spot people rushing from the four corners of the stadium not to miss a glimpse of any action. The sound of the vuvuzelas overshadowed the dance groups when the Senior Divisional Officer arrived the playground. He immediately gave the kickoff for the match between Bafana Bafana of Ndu and Buca Junior FC of Nwa. At the end of first half both teams went for a break with no goal on either side. Upon resumption, barely 05 minutes into the second half, Bafana Bafana scored the opening goal. Buca Junior equalized just 3 minutes later. During the second half Buca Junior missed two scoring chances while Bafana Bafana swandered 3 scoring opportjnity. At the end of 90 minutes, both teams were at one goal each. Buca Junior missed two penalties while Bafana Bafana missed one, 4#2.

It is woth mentioning that in 2012, 1st edition, Maiscam FC of Ndu won, in 2013 during the second edition Algayu FC of Ndu emerged winners and in 2023, Bafana Bafana of Ndu have won.

Launching of Col. Sunday Nfor Lawrence Foundation

The day started with a mini cross country race to mark the official launching of Col. Sunday Nfor Lawrence Foundation at the Nkambe grandstand. During the official launching over 1500 pupils and students received basic school material worth over FCFA 2 million.

To extend the hand of fellowship to all the five municipalities, a huge consignment of the didactic materials were handed to the representatives of Ako, Ndu, Nkambe, Nwa and Misaje councils to share to the needy. Addressing beneficiaries, the representative of Late Colonel Sunday’s family said the foundation seeks to support and encourage sustainable development in Donga Mantung Division as well as continue with the philanthropic gesture of their father.

On the hand, the Senior Divisional Officer for Donga Mantung thanked the family for supporting youths who are the light of society.

“We are here to celebrate this gift from this family in honour of the efforts of late Col. Sunday Nfor Lawrence. We started with the cross country which the youths manifested strength and energy. It is this strength and energy that enabled Colonel Sunday Nfor Lawrence to become a military officer. We are here to hand this donation on behalf of the Foundation so that education may continue to be the bed rock of Donga Mantung,” says Dr Nkwenti.

Dr. Nkwenti Simon emphasized that education should continue to be that cherished item that makes the people of Donga Mantung great. He reiterated that those who preach against education are the enemies of mankind. He congratulated the foundation for building a holistic society.

At the end of handing over of packages, over 1500 pupils and students who attended the launching ceremony went home with exercise books and pens while 60 others received school bags and books.
