At the celebration of the 20th Anniversary of Mobile Telephone in Cameroon, the Prime Minister and Head of Government, Chief Dr. Joseph Dion Ngute, received in audience the president of Huawei Northern Africa, Terry He.
That was on May, 17, 2021 during the ceremony that took place at the Yaounde Hilton Hotel under the distinguished patronage of the Head of State, Paul Biya, and chaired by the Minister of Post and Telecommunications, Minette Libom Li Likeng.
Highlight of the audience was the donation of 20 videoconferencing devices “Huawei Ideal Hub” to the Cameroonian government.
The donations were made by the President of Huawei Northern Africa Terry He, who said, it is to express the support of the Telecom Giant in the celebration of the 20th anniversary of Mobile Telephone in Cameroon.
“This donation is a symbol of the strategic cooperation between Huawei and the Government of Cameroon and the development of the ICT industry in Cameroon. We are grateful with the invaluable support of the Government of Cameroon and the management of Huawei attaches great importance to the cooperation with the Government of Cameroon”, He noted.
Terry He, disclosed that as part of the partnership existing between both Cameroon and Huawei, the latter has undertaken to train some 200 candidates in ICT in 2021, in partnership with some 7 Cameroonian universities.
By March 2021, some 525 students and 39 teachers had already been trained within the same context.
Terry He, equally disclosed that Huawei is not indifferent with the current health crisis in the country linked to the coronavirus pandemic.
“We shall effective disbursed a financial assistance of 100 Million FCFA to the Government of Cameroon to help fight the spread of Covid-19. This financial package was a promise made by Huawei last year October.” Terry He, confirmed.
Representing the Head of State, Prime Minister Dion Ngute saluted Huawei’s contributions to the development of the digital economy in Cameroon.
“We remain open to any proposal that aims at supporting the Government within the framework of its emergence by 2035”, the PM noted.
