It was a Limbe Omnisport Stadium decorated with the colours of CAMTEL that welcomed athletes participating at the 24th FENASCO A games on Wednesdays, April 3, 2024. It was the official opening ceremony presided over by Secondary Education Minister, Prof. Nalova Lyonga.
“I call on you all to be disciplined because when I was still in school, I made sure I was disciplined in everything I did,” Nalova Lyonga told the athletes at the opening ceremony.
Over 2,200 athletes from the country’s 10 regions are vying for medals in over 10 disciplines.
For six days, the athletes will be involved in collective and individual disciplines, including football, handball, basketball, volleyball, gymnastics, table tennis, judo, badminton, track and field events among others.
Besides being an opportunity for students to showcase their talents in various disciplines, the FENASCO A games also provide a forum for them to develop a spirit of unity and sportsmanship.
Officials and athletes at the opening saluted the presence of Cameroon Telecommunications which they believe will contribute to raise the standards of the games.
The incumbent telecommunications operator, CAMTEL, has decorated the different sports arenas with gadgets representing the service they offer like mobile telephone service thanks to the “Blue” brand of the operator.
Besides that, CAMTEL is offering internet services at the events ground that will help officials in some of the competitions, as well as make communication easier among the athletes and officials.
The opening ceremony which featured match pass of the delegations from the 10 regions of the country took place at the Limbe Omnisport Stadium.
Among the dignitaries at the opening was the Mayor of the Limbe City Council, Paul Effome Ngale, who expressed his delight at the successful commencement of the event.
As official sponsor of the 24th edition of the FENASCO A games, CAMTEL is just being true to its philosophy as a corporate citizen enterprise with mission to assist the state in the era of digital technology.
It is not the first event that CAMTEL is sponsoring in the education sector. The company has always answered present among students and pupils. The last university games is a good example to cite.
Prior to the launch of the Games, Limbe City Mayor, Paul Effome Ngale on behalf of the population of the city, received the Olympic Flame from the hands of the Minister of Secondary Education, Prof Nalova Lyonga. She was accompanied by his colleague of Sports and Physical Education, Prof Narcisse Mouelle Kombi and other authorities in Fako Division.
Apart from handing over the Olympic Flame and a tour of streets of Limbe with the flame, there was also the inauguration of the FENASCO A monument as well as MINESEC Cup for secondary school teachers at the Limbe Centenary Stadium.
The competition is an innovation of Prof Nalova Lyonga.
Worth noting is the fact that the Centre Region is the defending champions of the FENASCO A games, having been crowned champions of the last three editions organised in 2019, 2022 and 2023.
