Story, Louvier Kindo Tombe
When CAMASEJ delegates converged on Bamenda for the Annual General Meeting on December 16, 2023, the idea was to choose a leader who will take the association to higher heights. It was difficult to tell who will carry the day as both aspirants had interesting points on their manifestos. After the votes were counted, outgoing president, Viban Jude, emerged winner.
“The secret behind Viban’s victory is his achievements in the past mandate,” one of the delegates told News Upfront shortly after the list of the outgoing president was declared victorious.
The outgoing president won the hearts of 79 delegates who voted in his favour as against 54 for his challenger, Cham Victor Bama.
The new president who took office immediately after the elections promised in his acceptance statement that he will work with every member of the association to achieve the desired objectives.
“What we would do a lot more is to listen, reach out to people, take ideas and implement them as a team,” Viban Jude said.
The new president seized the occasion to call on all CAMASEJ members irrespective of their chapters to develop the spirit of commitment. He said “a committed member means you share ideas, bring forth ideas, and support the association”.
Fair play at AGM
Before the Annual General Meeting ended, many were thinking it will further put CAMASEJ members and Chapters apart, owing to the heated nature of the campaign period and deliberations at the meeting in Ayaba Hotel, Bamenda. Their worries were cleared when the main challenger, Cham Victor, accepted defeat and congratulated Viban Jude for a merited new mandate.
In the National CAMASEJ forum, he wrote “we have turned a new page in the life of the association. It is time to reunite and foster that much needed unity. Let’s look forward with optimism and believe in the renewed mandate of the current executive. We can do better together. Congratulations, Mr Viban and team. God’s blessings, Cham”.
In the same vein, the new president reminded members that it’s time to put the past behind and focus on the way forward.
“Electioneering is over, it is now time to build bridges, mend fence and make our association stand out tall,” Viban Jude wrote to members.
Following chapter reports presented by presidents, it is clear that all the six CAMASEJ chapters are waxing strong and ready to collaborate with each other.
CAMASEJ members seperated from Bamenda with the idea that the future of the association will be brighter in the up coming months, following the induction of a three year project aimed at boosting the activities, of CAMASEJ and it’s members in line with reporting the ongoing crisis in the restive North West and South West regions of Cameroon. A workshop to officially present the project took place during the AGM in Bamenda.
