A student of Government Bilingual High School, GBHS Babadjou in the West Region of Cameroon is reported to have assaulted his school Principal and Discipline Master inside the school campus.
The incident occurred on Thursday, February 18, 2021.
According to information, the student whose name News Upfront could not get demanded for an exit permit to return home but his request from the DM was turned down.
The student then became annoyed and pounced at the Discipline Master.
Informed, the school Principal came to intervene, and was also rough handled by the student.
He was later over powered thanks to the intervention of other staff members, who then handed him over to
Security forces.
The student was picked up and taken to their station by elements of the National Gendamarie where he spent hours in detention and was later freed.
News Upfront gathered that after regaining freedom, the student went back to the school and destroyed some infrastructure such as windows and doors and before leaving the school premises, he promised to come back.
Similar Happenings
For some years now and especially in big cities, there have been increasing violence in the school millieu with students either attacking their teachers or their mates.
In 2019 for instance, a student of Government Bilingusl High School, GBHS Nkolbisson in Yaounde, stabbed to death his mathematics teacher.
That same year, another student from GBHS Deido in Douala, stabbed his mate to death.
In 2020, a student from Government High School Obala chopped off his friend’s finger with a cutlass.
December 2020, a student from a private school in Douala wounded the face of his friend with a Razor Blade.
Recently in February 2021, a student of GBHS Ekounou in Yaounde threatened his teacher with a gun.
Many have attributed these happenings to the consumption of drugs and effects of social media.
