Donald John Trump has been critical of the international organization for it’s handling of the Coronavirus pandemic.
The US President believes there is a fishy game somewhere.
To him, the World Health Organization (WHO) is severely mismanaging and covering up for the spread of the pandemic.
The US leader accuses the organisation for also bungling the response and failing to communicate on the threats of the disease.
By deciding Tuesday April 14, 2020 through a conference to halt US funds to the WHO, Donald John Trump places a question mark on how the organisation manages it’s funds.
“With the outbreak of COVID-19, we have deep concerns whether America’s generosity has been put to the best use possible” Donald Trump remarked.
US contributes more than $400 million per year to the World Health Organization whose annual budget is $4.8 billion.
UN Secretary General, Antonio Guteresse, speaking shortly after Trump’s speech declared he is against the US decision because the WHO is absolutely critical to the world’s efforts to fight COVID-19.
The decision to stop US funding is a major blow to the organization as it is noted for conducting vaccine trials, distributing test kids and advising governments around the world.
It has also drawn swift throwback from the medical community that has said it would undercut global efforts to combat a pandemic that has sickened nearly two (2) million people worldwide, and still has no proven cure or vaccine.
The President of America’s medical organisation, Patrice Harris, has urged the Trump administration to reconsider it’s stand saying that a global pandemic requires International cooperation and reliance on science and data.
However, critics to the Trump’s administration have accused the President of downplaying the pandemic as he earlier compared it to a seasonal flu.
It should be noted that, Donald John Trump declared COVID-19 a national emergency only two months after the WHO declared it a global Health Emergency in January 2020.
