Not every lawyer of the Cameroon Bar Association is happy observing the present strike action.

Over ten (10) legal minds have written to the Bar Council disassociating themselves with the protest.

According to them, the move is discriminatory and a veritable scandal.

They say it is an injustice to the profession since it prevents only some lawyers from practicing and allows others to exercise freely.

In order words, the restriction of activities during the protest period is not binding to all lawyers of the Cameroon Bar Association.

In their letter, the unhappy lawyers point an accusing finger at the Bar Council for promoting the outlined discrimination.

To butress their claims, the lawyers indicated that a good number of men/women in black robes have specialized in defending only criminal affairs and electoral disputes and with the up coming Regional Council Elections, they are highly affected by the protest.

From all indications, that wouldn’t have been a problem if everyone else was affected in the same capacity, but the Bar Council they say has given the latitude to lawyers specialized in minor affairs (Non Criminal) to exercise and make money to the detriment of others.

News Upfront gathered from other lawyers that though they are on strike, their activities are not totally brought to a halt.

“We shall continue to receive clients in our chambers, offer legal advices, carry out legal investigations outside the court rooms among others” Bar. Amungwa Nicodemus Esq. told News Upfront.

Worth noting is the fact that the unhappy lawyers notified the Bar Council of their discontentment four (4) days to the start of the protest but have not been able to disrespect the restrictions from the Bar Council.

Observers say it is for obvious reasons. The unhappy lawyers are still members of the Bar Association, which can independently sanction them to the point of dismissing them from the Bar Association and even the corps should they go against the rules and regulations of the Cameroon Bar Association.
