World Environment Day is not just a celebration but also a reminder to the population to take care of their surroundings. That explains why Young Volunteers for Environment Cameroon (JVE Cameroon) seized the occasion to sensitize the population and demonstrate best practices towards the environment.

Over 100 young volunteers were mobilized for the exercise.

“It is our duty as citizens of this country to work towards restoring the beauty of our environment”, Blondel Silenou, Executive Director of JVE Cameroon told News Upfront.

This year, JVE Cameroon was at the Yaounde IV Sub Division (2eme Carrefour Emombo) to sensitize the population and carry out clean up exercises along the main roads of the neighborhood.

“Most gutters in this quarter have been blocked by waste materials and it has contributed to damage the main road here making circulation of vehicles and people”, recounts an inhabitant of the area.

“We are very happy with the exercise carried here today by this organization, we encourage them to continue like this all over the town”, he continued.

Also present to encourage the volunteers of the organization was a chief of block at Emombo, whose name we got as Bille Ossele jean jules.

“These are the type of activities that we need to have a better life in the future in our neighborhood”, he said.

“The gutters are now clean and rain water will circulate freely, our people would not go through difficult moments again in their daily activities”, he continued.

The NGO is determined to continue the fight for a clean environment despite all odd.

“It is our mission and we must carry it at all cost”, Blondel Silenou, Executive Director of JVE Cameroon said.

The activity of June 5, 2022, (World Environment Day) was in line with a campaign dub “Trash Challenge“, and carried in collaboration with another organization of dynamic women for the environment. The theme for this year’s edition of World Environment Day; ‘Only One Earth’, was a call drawing the attention of the public to play their role effectively while living in perfect harmony with nature, and without a burden on it.

The Non Governmental Organization, Young Volunteers for Environment Cameroon (JVE Cameroon) it should be noted is a community advocacy NGO, which works to ensure full participation of vulnerable people especially youths and women in decision-making processes, and advocacy for a sustainable development.
