It was a spectacular celebration of brilliance and achievements. Dressed in their robes, the graduates could not hide their feelings coming to the end of up to three years of studies. One of them is
Hackwi Boma, graduating from the department of marketing.
“My journey at the ICT University has been enriching, and my final year project on test marketing was pivotal,” she said.
Just like her, all the graduates who talked to us were satisfied with their stay at the ICT University. They were all grateful to the administration of the university.
“I am so grateful to the school and staff, for what they have done for us. I am going out well equipped to face the world,” says Stephanie Laure, another graduate.
The over 500 graduates are leaving the ICT University with a clear idea of how the future looks like. They were schooled on job creation and most of them already know the way forward. They are aware that the graduation is not the end of the road.
“I have a dream to create employment for other Cameroonians after this graduation,” a software engineer graduate told this reporter.
The different officials present at the graduation ceremony encouraged the graduates not to sleep on their laurels.
The Prime Minister’s representative at the ceremony, Prof. Cosmos Cheka, called on them to put the knowledge gained from the university at the service of the nation.
“The ICT University is one of the prides of Cameroon, you had the opportunity to learn the new trend the world is offering. It’s an opportunity to use the skills acquired here to make Cameroon a greater nation,” he stated.
Present at the ceremony was former CRTV senior staff, Eric Chinje, now CEO of the African Media Initiative, who together with the General Manager of CRTV, Charles Ndongo, were each recognised with a lifetime achievement award for services rendered to the nation. Eric Chinje told the graduates that they have all it takes to make the change in this digital era.
“Our country needs ICT tools, but we need professionals who will be able to make good use of the tools,” he said.
Prof. Jean Emmanuel Pondi, Vice Chancellor of the ICT University, emphasized on the mission and vision of the institution. To him “the ICT University is to train job creators and not job seekers”.
The founder and president of the ICT University, Prof. Victor Mbarika, was particularly impressed with the performance of students with disabilities as well as foreigners coming to study in Cameroon.
“It is amazing and a great achievement for us,” he said.
“That is what makes us different and unique.”
The graduation ceremony was graced with the presence of a plethora of government officials.
