According to a press release from the United States Embassy in Yaounde – Cameroon, the US has no interest in Intervention in Cameroon.
The United States of America is highly concerned with the situation in the restive North West and South West regions of Cameroon, and their position has not changed.
“We call on both sides to the conflict in the North West and South West to abjure further violence and to enter into an open ended dialogue without pre-conditions,” the release states.
The US embassy indicated that America is a friend and partner of Cameroon.
The release was provoked by some media reports with allegations that US Ambassador to the United Nations Kelly Craft, recently announced a supposed US military Intervention in Cameroon.
The stories to the embassy are fake given that Ambassador Craft did not comment about Cameroon in the recent time period and the US has no such intentions.
Even the US Senate and US Congress have not debated on, or take any decision to approve any US military Intervention in Cameroon.
The recent resolution from the US Senate on the situation was last September 7, 2020, but it was non-binding and focused on human rights violations in Cameroon with a call for an end to violence.
There’s therefore no decision awaiting the President’s approval, as claimed by some news stories.
Ambassador Craft along with other US officials, has occasionally raised concerns about humanitarian needs and human rights violence and abuses in Cameroon.
The US, it should be noted, had lauded the Major National Dialogue organized last year saying it was a good step in the right direction.
The fresh call for dialogue falls in line with the country’s position on the crisis, which experts believe is the best way out.
