According to most of the tenants News Upfront met, signs of the building to collapse were visible months back and all efforts to get authorities remedy the situation cell on deaf ears.
One of the closest neighbours to the collapsed building, a woman who preferred to stay anonymous told News Upfront how they have reported the danger presented by the building to council Officials and even to officials of the Yaounde City Council who both visited the site months back and since then nothing had happened.
She feared that the owner of the collapsed building may have corrupted the officials to stay quiet to the complaints from neighbours.
It should be noted that only part of the building (an extension) collapsed by 8:00 am Thursday on other rooms covering tenants inside.
The rescue operation was Launched by commercial motorbike riders who immediately retrieved four kids alive.
The bike riders were assisted later by elements of the military engineering corps.
