The Minister of Territorial Administration says Cameroon will not tolerate any form of disorder from who so ever
Minister Paul Atanga Nji was speaking Monday September 07, 2020 in Yaounde during a press conference shortly after President Paul Biya convened the electorate for the regional elections.
The MinAT boss was brief but precise in his declaration.
From all indications, the message was directed to the president of the Cameroon Renaissance Movement, Prof. Maurice Kamto who two weeks ago threatened to outs the Head of State through street manifestations.
To the MinAT boss, the CRM party is loosing stream and it’s leader is an imposter trying to destabilize the country.
The government is aware and will never allow that to happen.
“Competent authorities have been briefed on what to do should Kamto try to put his threat to practice” Atanga Nji told reporters.
The Minister cited some articles of the penal code on seccesion and revolution that would be applied to all defaulters.
Paul Atanga Nji, reminded the CRM scribe, Prof. Maurice Kamto that the decision to discontinue his Court case and those of his followers did not mean that the legal charges have been cancelled.
He threatened to re-arrest Kamto if he dares try to attack State institutions, infringe territorial integrity or initiate any move to topple the Head of State.
After responding to the Kamto, Paul Atanga Nji indicated how ready the government is to assist Elecam in organising the polls.
“We shall provide Elecam with the official list of traditional rulers as well as the neccesary security they deserve to organize free and fair elections through out the country” he announced.
The press conference from the Minister of Territorial Administration came barely hours after the Head of State, Paul Biya, convened the electorate for the regional elections.
According to a presidential decree, the elections shall hold on Sunday December 06, 2020 through out the national territory.
Polling stations shall open at 8:00 am and close at 6:00 pm.
With the convening of the electorate, many are those who expect the leader of the CRM party, prof Maurice Kamto, to practically transform his threat.
Kamto it should be noted had through a press conference in Yaounde threatened to launch a nationwide street protest should the electorate was convened without resolving the anglophone crisis and revising the electoral list.
He went further to declare that, one of the objectives of the manifestation would be to press for the departure of president Paul Biya.
A statement that provoked reactions from the political class in the country.
The national communication secretary of the central committee of the ruling CPDM, prof Jacques Fame Ndongo, and the deputy secretary general of the party, Minister Gregroire Owona had castigated the CRM scribe indicating that he is “seeking for notice”.
A movement dub, “all behind Paul Biya” emerged after the declaration from Kamto to resist any negative move on the head of state.
Some political parties like the Social Democratic Front, SDF of chairman Ni John Fru Ndi and the Cameroon People’s Party, CPP of Edith Kah Wallah corroborated Kamto’s position.
The Regional Elections Were Visible.
The signs were clear when the MinAT Boss, Paul Atanga Nji recently met with Internally Displaced traditional rulers from the two English speaking Regions with the objective of encouraging their safe return to their respective palaces.
The Minister had indicated that the Head of State could in a near future convened the electorate.
Paul Biya in his discretion started by shaping the Regional Elections map through a decree.
Some Divisions of the North West and South West regions were not happy though with the partition.
Even the elections organizing body, Elecam at the wake of the revision of the electoral list announced their readiness for the regional polls indicating that some 15.077 news voters were registered in 2020.
The regional elections it should be noted, is a giant step towards a more enlightened democracy.
It marks the end of the electoral cycle launched last March 25, 2018.
