It was on the occasion of Camtel Digital Infrastructure Day that stakeholders in Cameroon’s digital economy gathered to discuss on development and financing of digital infrastructure, as well as digital infrastructure governance. The digital infrastructure day that took place on Tuesday, January 16, 2024 was within the framework of activities marking Camtel’s 25th anniversary launched late last year.
“We decided not to celebrate through festive activities but rather through exchanges, seminars and workshops so that all different actors should come together and discuss on the importance of digital infrastructure,” Camtel’s General Manager, Judith Yah Sunday Epse Achidi said as she opened the Digital Infrastructure Day.
The Digital Infrastructure Day was placed on the theme “digital infrastructure development and governance in the context of NDS30: challenges and prospects”. Participants from all sectors involved in digital economy brainstormed on the structural transformation of the economy through proper digital management, how to promote large-scale digital projects through integrated approaches, innovative fundings, telecommunications sector regulations, digital infrastructure governance and partnerships for joint and collaborative development of infrastructure among others.
The idea was to present the role of digital infrastructure in digital economy development. The workshop was timely because the government of Cameroon has invested enormously in the digital sector in Cameroon.
“Today, it is important for us to preserve that investment and to develop it further, to be able to serve the entire nation,” Judith Yah Sunday said.
“We all know that without telecommunications, no business can function, so it’s critical for us to invite all stakeholders to come work on how to preserve and develop it.”
